The choice between PA66 (Polyamide 66 / Nylon 66) and PBT (Polybutylene Terephthalate) for connector housings affects thermal performance, mechanical strength, chemical resistance, and cost.

PA66 V0 — The Home Appliance Standard

PA66 is the most widely used connector housing material in home appliances.

  • Excellent cost-performance ratio with good mechanical strength and toughness.
  • Passes IEC 60335-1 glow wire testing at 850°C. Well-established in the supply chain with consistent molding quality.

When to use PA66: Standard home appliances (refrigerators, washing machines, AC indoor units), cost-sensitive applications, indoor environments, operating temperatures below 105°C.

PBT GF — The High-Performance Option

  • Higher continuous temperature rating (125°C) with excellent dimensional stability and superior chemical resistance.
  • Higher material cost (20-40% more than PA66) but justified for demanding applications.

When to use PBT: Automotive under-hood connectors, outdoor AC units, high-temperature applications (>105°C), environments with chemical exposure.
